The arrival of the service in the city will bring its support closer to parents in western NSW.
The new hub is a joint partnership between Tresillian, the NSW government and Western NSW Local Health District.
Tresillian regional services operational manager Debbie Stockton said the organisation was excited to bring its support within an accessible distance.
“It’s something Tresillian has been committed to for a very long time, getting out there into the regions...” she said.
“The families that have been isolated and needing help and when you’re at the end of your tether and you are absolutely exhausted, the last thing you want to do is have to pick up and travel a distance, particularly to Sydney, and somewhere where you’re away from your family and friends.”
Tresillian is renowned for providing support with “sleep and settling” and other issues in early childhood.
The Dubbo team will provide centre-based and home-based consultations, group programs and video consultations.
“It is so important that our services look at the needs of the families as a whole and as well as a baby who might not be sleeping, often that’s associated with the parents feeling, like I said, exhausted, but particularly there might be some anxiety, some depression,” Ms Stockton said.
“And if we’re able to get in there early and provide that support, then the families will be able to come and access psychology services, speak to our nurses who have had advanced practice training, and they’ll be able to get the help they need when they need it.”
Ms Stockton said the centre would be working closely with local child and family health nurses, clinicians and non-government agencies.
“So importantly, this is not in place of, this is an extension, an enhancement to the services that are available to families,” she said.
