Promising junior Sissian opened the batting for Rugby after the men in sky blue won the toss and elected to bat, and he didn’t leave the field until the end of his side’s innings.
Sissian posted a classy and important 62 not out as Rugby scored 8-164 from its 40 overs.
Sissian was the rock in the innings while the next best score was 21 from Zac Murphy.
The bulk of the Macquarie bowlers kept things tight but Chad O’Brien proved the most effective and finished with 3/46 from his eight overs.
Richards then took control of the match and tore through the Blues lineup on his way to finishing with 5/16 from six overs.
He picked up five of the first six wickets as Macquarie slumped to 6-35. Justin Gavin made 32 late as the Blues limped to 92.
Veteran Glenn Shepherd chimed in with a late 2-8 for the unbeaten Rugby.
At Lady Cutler 4, CYMS scored a dominant win over South Dubbo.
Batting first, the Cougars posted 229 with the experienced Dave McAlister top-scoring with 52 while youngster Nathan Hawke was not far behind with an unbeaten 50. Captain Ben Williams also made 48 in the imposing total.
An 84-run partnership between Williams and McAlister was one of the highlights of the innings.
Rudy Peet took 3-47 for the Hornets, who struggled in reply.
Cougars quick James ‘Busta’ Nelson knocked over the top order to have Souths 3-30 and while Joe Yeo made an impressive 51, it proved not enough.
Yeo and Andrew Cusack (26) were the only ones to make meaningful starts as Souths was dismissed for 144.
Nelson was the standout bowler for CYMS and finished with 3-19 from eight overs while Williams capped off his all-round game with 2-20.
The final match of the round saw RSL-Colts survive a few wobbles before beating Newtown with relative ease.
Newtown was in trouble early after winning the toss, Sam Campbell striking to have the Tigers 2-28.
But contributions from Adam Davis (38) and Dwayne Kent (27) got things back on track before Greg Kerr helped the score go well past 100.
Kerr went on to finish 52 not out as his side finished its 40 overs at 7-180.
Colts’ opening bowler Campbell finished with 3-35 from seven.
At 1-53 it seemed Colts was in total control of the run chase but Jakob Short (2-21 from seven) struck twice to start a mini collapse.
With the score at 5-93 the match evenly poised but then Colts took control.
The experienced duo of Nathan Jones (54 not out) and Nathan Finlay (41 not out) showed their class when guiding the defending premiers to a five-wicket win with more than five overs to spare.
