NSW Education Standard Authority data showed that Joshua was the most common name and Nguyen was the most common family name among 76,732 students who took the 118 HSC written exams from October 18 to November 9.

Most students (49,272) were based in Sydney and another (27,054) students were from regional areas. 

There were 406 students who were from outside NSW.

Data showed that Japanese, French, Chinese, Italian and Spanish were the most popular languages among students.

The unique enrollments for these language courses were: Japanese (1449), French (1130), Chinese (979), Italian (570) and Spanish (334).

Since it is compulsory to study an English course for the HSC, a total of 71,036 students were enrolled in at least one of the HSC English courses, including English Standard, English Advanced, English as a Second Language, English Extension 1, English Extension 2, English Studies and English Life Skills.

Unique enrollments for other courses were: Mathematics (58,624), Biology (18,361), Business Studies (18,093), Personal Development, Health & Physical Education (17,399), Studies of Religion (14,748), Modern History (11,349), Chemistry (11,295), Legal Studies (10,606) and Physics (9586).

Education Minister Rob Stokes asked students to celebrate and enjoy the moment before considering next steps

“Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Now that you have finished school there are so many pathways to success for you to consider in further study and work. Take your time, there is no rush,” Mr Stokes said.

Students can start receiving results from Thursday, December 13 through text or email.
