When Dubbo teenager Matthew Coffee drove $151 shot Arcachon to a third-placed finish in the recent Kari JC Caffyn Indigenous Drivers Plate final at Menangle, it was clear the mare had some heart.

That ability is what trainer Chris Frisby and driver Anthony Frisby wants to see when the six-year-old goes from the tricky barrier 12 in Friday night’s Star Trek Final at the Bathurst Paceway.
But as well as that toughness, the Frisby duo know they’ll need some good fortune from gate 12 in the $15,900 feature.
In a quality final, Arcachon’s rivals include Ominous Warning, who has won 10 of his last 11 starts, and Amanda Turnbull’s talented mare Now Eye See, who has never finished out of the placings.
“A lot of the good horses have drawn out the front, so that might suit us being back, they might go silly early and we might be able to sit back and watch it unfold,” Anthony Frisby said.
“If they go hard early it might suit us back horses, you never know. She’s a grade under all those other horses, but we know she’ll go out there and put her best foot forward.”
Arcachon qualified for the 1,730 metres final with a third in her heat then second placing in last Wednesday’s semi-final.
While Anthony Frisby is unsure if she can deliver his father another win in the series he took out with Uncle John in 2015, he knows Arcachon will give it her all.
“She’s been a bloody ripper mare,” he said.
“She’s always honest, she always goes out there and runs her best race, she’ll put her best foot forward for you all the time.”
The Star Trek event headlines the meeting but the focus for Dubbo trainer Barry Lew is on the Matt, Cameron and Shane Pace (1730m).
Lew’s hope Karloo Jonno will go around in that event and will go from barrier two with Mat Rue in the gig.
The race offers a golden chance for Karloo Jonno to get back in the winners’ circle after placing fourth and eighth in his two starts back this preparation.
Racing at Bathurst Paceway starts at 6.33pm with the Star Trek final the fifth event of the card at 8.34pm.
