The Kangaroos coach will work as the Titans' head of performance and culture for the next three years in an appointment the club hopes will consolidate them in the NRL landscape.

Brennan had the optional third year of his contract triggered in the off-season, effectively securing his position at the club for at least two more campaigns.

And Meninga said the second-year coach had his full backing as he went about overseeing all aspects of the club.

"That's the last thing I want to do, is coach," he said.

"Garth is the coach and the club's got full faith in him, just extending his contract.

"That's not me ... I've built a career on my integrity and reputation and I'm here to help, not to take over."

The recently inducted Immortal coached Canberra for four seasons, having captained the club to three premierships and set records as a player for both Australian and Queensland.

But it was while winning nine of 10 series as Queensland coach, and last year's World Cup with Australia, that truly established him as one of the sport's most successful identities.

The Titans, who boast just three finals appearances in their 12 seasons, hope some of that winning culture rubs off.

"He is a winner," executive chairman Dennis Watt said.

"We're a bottom-of-the-table club right now, but we're all determined to compete regularly for the major prize."

Watt labelled Meninga's arrival as an investment in Brennan too, who they hope blossoms with his help.

"This is the last opportunity for a Gold Coast franchise in the national competition and we're mindful of that responsibility," Watt said.

"We're determined that we're absolutely going to be successful - this is happening on our watch - we're going to build a sustainable future and getting Mal on board is a massive coup for the club."
