Former Dubbo College vice-captain and corporate lawyer Sam Stapleton will be the special guest speaker at the annual Dubbo College Presentation Night.

Mr Stapleton, who graduated from Dubbo College in 2007, is now an associate and lawyer with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers in Adelaide, the largest legal partnership in Australia.
As part of the firm’s corporate and commercial team Mr Stapleton specialises in mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory and general commercial law.
After completing his Higher School Certificate and gaining a UAI of 97.65, the vice-captain was presented with a Charles Hawker Scholarship, one of the most generous privately funded scholarships awarded to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Australia.
Interestingly the College captain from the same year Sagar Sritharan was also awarded a Hawker Scholarship in 2008, with both students going on to study together at the Australian National University in Canberra.
At the time the Dubbo College boys made history being the first two students from the same school to be awarded Hawker Scholarships in the same year.
Mr Stapleton studied a Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts (Political Science major), completing the double degree in July 2013.
The following year he completed his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
At university Mr Stapleton played an active role in college life, ultimately becoming a residential advisor at Burgmann College ,as well as deputy chair and director of the Australian National University Union.

He was vice-president of the Burgmann College Residents Association in 2010, and in 2009, oversaw Burgmann College’s community partnership program with a remote Indigenous community in far North Queensland.
Mr Stapleton said he was looking forward to returning to Dubbo, where his parents continue to reside, and was eager to talk to current Dubbo College students about his experiences at school and in the years since.
