In between watching the race that stops the nation, spectators watched competitors in the Fashions on the Fields.
Fashions on the Field organiser Kristen Smith said there was a great turn-out for the final of the 12-month series.
“We had five times [the competitors] to what we had last year, we had two heats and a final today, last year we didn’t have that,” Ms Smith said.
The winner of the inaugural Fashions on the Field Josie Anderson said victory left her speechless.
“So many people put in such a big effort towards their outfits,” Ms Anderson said.
“I think it’s really great you’ve had to qualify all year for it, a lot of people have put in a big consistent effort to qualify for today.”
She won the Whitneys Jewellers handcrafted pink tourmaline and diamond ring. Designed by owner Gina Brown the ring was handcrafted on site by Peter Letzbor and Warren Brown.
She said to receive a prize of that calibre was “amazing” and “unheard of in the country”.

“The races brings the community together, it’s great we can celebrate fashion in the country, it’s great we have so much local support, especially from a jeweller,” Ms Anderson said.
Daily Liberal Fashions on the Field winner Sara Jackson said she was excited to have won and placed second in the final round.
“I’ve come out from Bourke, so any excuse to get dressed up and I’m there,” Ms Jackson said.
The winner for the men’s round was Lachlan Cusack, who said it was “absolutely fantastic” to win, receiving a $500 Blowes Menswear voucher.
“It’s fantastic, this is my eighth race for the year, there’s been a bit of a circuit.
“I’ve been in Fashions on the Field for about two years, it’s probably my only hobby, I really enjoy it, its something to get excited about.”
