There’s something glamorous about the Melbourne Cup, which means you’re lounge room is no place to watch the race that stops a nation.
So don a Spring frock, leave the high-vis at home and head to one of the below to be part of the action on November 6.
1. The Daily Liberal Melbourne Cup event at the Dubbo Turf Club
Local races, national races on the big screen, fashions on the field and a cool drink or two with your mates. The Dubbo Turf Club is putting on the whole package with the Daily Liberal once again hosting the Melbourne Cup event.
With the final of the Whitney’s Jewelers-Landmark Harcourt’s fashions in the field series held on the day, and five local races, as well as many more, including the race that stops the nation on one of the biggest screens in town, there is something for everyone needing an afternoon at the club.
Cost: $10 for gate admission
2. The Commercial Hotel
Enjoy a banquet or sit down for a few drinks at The Merch, while watching all the Melbourne Cup action live on the big screen.
With the banquet comprising of a shared entree, alternate drop main, shared dessert and glass of bubbles on arrival you won’t go hungry. Sweeps and prizes also on offer with TAB facilities available.
Cost: $70 per person for the banquet.
3. Church Street Cafe
From midday to 5pm CSC has your Melbourne Cup sorted. With a free drink on arrival and a two course lunch consisting of grazing platters and canpes you are sure to find something yummy.
A blow up screen will host all the race action, with live music by Sam Coon to entertain and prizes for teh best dressed and best hat or fascinator.
Cost: $60 per person.
4. The RSL Club
Join in with Melbourne Cup at the RSL Club and catch all the action on the big screen.
With a platinum TAB open from 8am, there will also be sweeps on the day with $2, $5 and $10 available.
There’s a free sausage sizzle from 2pm, The Melbourne Cup Luncheon from 11.30am (make sure you book with the events centre for this one), the sunset bistro will be open from 11.30am and poppies coffee shop is open from 8am.
5. The Garden Hotel
Three massive projectors, a $150GTD punters challenge, sweeps, schooners and heaps more, the Garden Hotel is another place you can spend your Melbourne Cup afternoon in Dubbo.
Relax, put your feet up and let the Garden Hotel take care of your Melbourne Cup lunch, and drinks before the race.
