But club president Vince Gordon says the day will have more to offer than just the big race.
“We are expecting a big crowd at the club, but we will have plenty going on to entertain even the most casual race observer before and after the race is run,” he said.
“The final of the Whitneys Jewelers-Landmark Harcourts fashions in the field series will be held on the day, we’ve held fashions events at the races in Dubbo, Narromine, Coonamble and Bourke and the winner of the final will receive a handcrafted diamond ring made by Whitneys Jewelers.
“Melbourne Cup is all about vibrant colour so there will be plenty of interesting fashion to see.
“We want people to come and experience the action on the course, feel the atmosphere of the day as it unfolds then watch the cup on the biggest screen in Dubbo.”
Mr Gordon said the Melbourne Cup is one of the most open races in the world.
“Anyone could win and it will be a big day no matter who wins,” he said. “People should book cabs to the event so they don’t drink and drive and come and enjoy lunch in the shaded area of our magnificent outdoor arena.”
