Gulgong trainer Mark Milton was one who got to savour that feeling after seeing Escebee take out the Club Dubbo Benchmark 66 Handicap (1000m).
The result made it back-to-back victories for the gelding after a win at Bathurst last time out.
“He’s racing in a nice lease of life,” Milton said.
“He probably hasn’t been so genuine but today he really knuckled down and worked hard.”
Apprentice jockey Qin Yong did a fine job assessing the race, sitting midfield for most of the journey before moving out at the top of the straight.
He surged home and won from a fast-finishing Sons Of Bourke ($3.10), trained by Clint Lundholm, in an entertaining finish.
Yeas And Nays ($14) was third.
“It’s always good when you’ve got the atmosphere of the big crowd. It’s excellent,” Milton said, before praising Yong.
“Qin rode him great. Gave him a nice covered run and then popped out at the right time and then he was nice and strong,” he said.
