In years gone by the band of Lunn brothers from Carinda were successful jockeys but since then they have moved into the training and ownership side of things.
Garry, Dar, Michael, and Lee are all trainers based at Dubbo while Wayne, more commonly known around the tracks as Bronco, and Shane own many of their brothers’ horses.

Saturday’s Derby Day meeting was another big day for the family with Garry and Dar both training winners while Karen Lunn, a newcomer on the training scene, also scored with rank outsider El Rey Doardo.
Karen if the wife of Michael and enjoyed her first win as a trainer at Condobolin earlier in the year.
El Rey Dorado was the first of the family’s winners in front of a massive Derby Day crowd, the the $41 chance sweeping home from last to take out the Royal Indian Restobar Maiden Plate (1400m).
That victory was followed by Unresolved’s win for Garry in the SJ Shooter Real Estate Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1600m).
Unresolved held off Club Town, trained by Michael, in the straight and the Lunn quinella made it even more of a family affair.
“Bronco owns both of them but I said wherever he (Club Town) finished I would be in front of you,” Garry said after the win.
“His run at Narromine (last start) was good and I was happy with the run. I had something on him too, I got $24 and he was $31 earlier in the week … it makes for a good day.”
Unresolved, with promising apprentice Wendy Peel in the saddle, jumped a $16 chance on Saturday and after settling midfield early soon pushed forward around the outside to battle Sorry I’m Awesome ($6.50) for the lead.
Unresolved began to move clear of the chasing pack as Sorry I’m Awesome faded heading into the straight.
Carinda Road ($61) was leading the charge and Club Town ($4.40) found a run but it Peel and Unresolved had kicked clear with 200m to go.
Robbie Brewer got Club Town to power home but but Unresolved hung on to win by half a length.
Cadeyrn ($41) was third for Wellingtont rainer Michael Mulholland.
Unresolved’s win was a welcome one after the Kiwi gelding has shown promise before having to settle for second at Narromine last start.
“He was going better than the winner at Narromine and he had no favours here either,” Garry said.
“He was stuck three or four wide and she (Peel) had to keep going on him.
“I’m having a lot of luck with her (Peel) and she rides well and she listens.”
Unresolved now has two wins from 30 starts but both those wins have come since moving to the Lunn stables earlier this year.
