The event drew nearly 4000 people through the gates in both 2017 and 2018.
Dubbo Turf Club general manager Vince Gordon said the event was “one of the most successful Derby Days for a long time”.
“It was a very nice day, there was an exceptional crowd exceptionally well behaved and there was very good racing on the racing surface now known for its quality,” Mr Gordon said.
“Overall the preparation of the grounds by Damien Johnston was a credit to him as the track manager.
“The overall success of the day as an event was it becoming one of Dubbo’s biggest social events of the year and to have it on such a good day with such a well behaved crowd is a credit to both the club and the patrons.”
He said one highlight of the day was the Fashions on the Field.
“Other than the racing, the highlight of the day would have been the Fashions on the Field series heat which is the final heat before Melbourne Cup day,” Mr Gordon said.
“Whitney’s Jewellers fashion series in the DJ Si Marquee had over a thousand people glued to the fashion series while it was running.
“There was more people watching the fashion than watching races when it was on.”
Mr Gordon said the success of the Fashions on the Field prompted the club to ensure it was a highlight in the future.
“Building on the success of the Derby Day the highlight of the Daily Liberal Melbourne Cup Race Day will be the finale of the fashion series with the ladies competing for the Whitney’s Jewellers handcrafted diamond ring,” he said.
“The series prizes are worth over $10,000.”
He encouraged residents of the region to celebrate the Melbourne Cup Race Day at the Dubbo Turf Club on Tuesday.
“I would certainly encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the day,” Mr Gordon said.
“Enjoy the race that stops the nation, on the largest TV screen in Dubbo, while enjoying the live racing on course.
“Don’t miss out on what will be one of Dubbo’s biggest Melbourne Cup days ... at one of the central west’s leading race courses.”
