The Zumba Kids Fun in Your Flannos for Farmers will potentially see hundreds of students across the region dance for half-an-hour all to raise money for drought affected farmers.

To be hosted by Tracy Hanna of ‘Zumba with Tracy’, the enormous statewide dance session will be broadcast across the Department of Education’s DART Connections videoconferencing network which specialises in a wealth of exciting virtual excursions, most recently covering the Invictus Games.

They are encouraging schools across the state to join them in one huge Zumba session on Monday, November 19.

Participating students are asked to make a gold coin donation with all money raised going to drought-affected NSW famers through GIVIT .

One of the driving forces behind the fundraiser is Buninyong Public School’s Community Centre Local Facilitator, Lorna Brennan.

Ms Brennan hopes there will be widespread support to give farmers a hand.

“It’s open to anyone to join and have a go,” she said.

While Ms Brennan doesn’t have a set fundraiser figure in mind, she says every bit will go towards helping farmers doing it tough.

“It will all go back to farmers in the area,” she said.

The idea started after Tracey sent an email putting a call out as she was thinking of doing a fundraiser for farmers, Ms Brennan said.

“I thought ‘why not do it’, Tracey already does Zumba classes with Distance Education,” she said.

Ms Brennan said if they get lots of students at lots of schools behind this, they can help make a big difference through GIVIT.

“As the weather warms, those of us who live in rural areas are seeing how quickly parched ground is drying out adding further to the plight of farmers,” she said.

“Perhaps our Zumba session will act as a rain dance, but if it doesn’t we’re hoping for a nice contribution to make the lives of farming families a little brighter.”
