The McDonald’s Megahit may seem like one of the more light-hearted competitions on the Dubbo and District Cricket Association schedule, but president Jeff Shanks and many others know its importance.

The draw for this season’s Twenty20 competition was released recently, with the Bob Berry Blasters and Rugby Liberty OneSteelers to play the first match of the new campaign on the night of Friday, November 9.
While concepts like the maxi over which doubles run off the bat, crowd catch prizes, and money rewards for the club which scores the highest percentage of its runs though boundaries and sixes, make the competition a fun one, Shanks said players also get plenty out of it.
“It gives the guys here the opportunity to have a hit, or to hit even bigger,” he said.
“But it’s always a good competition and it’s something different and gives us that third format outside of two-day and one-day cricket.
“And with Twenty20 matches part of so many representative carnivals now, it’s handy to have a competition like this here.”
The season opener is a grand final rematch, with the Blasters out for revenge after suffering defeat in the decider last season.
The OneSteelers won that game by 18 runs but the man who top-scored in that game, Ben Patterson, has since departed the Rugby club for Newtown.
There will be three Megahit doubleheaders played this season.
