The Molong Bulls haven’t formed anywhere across Western Division since a tough 2013 campaign in the Woobridge Cup, when the club folded after just four rounds of competition.

But that’s all about to change thanks to a determined group of Bulls, with a couple of meetings this week key as the club attempts to reform after a five-and-a-half season hiatus.

The club will hold an annual general meeting (AGM) on Wednesday at the Molong Central School hall where it’s expected a committee will be formed.

Then, on Sunday, club officials will attend the Woodbridge Cup AGM where the Bulls will apply to join the 2019 premiership race.

Bulls spokesperson Jenny Barrow says initial interest indicates the club will be able to fill a first grade side and a league tag team next season.

The club has also indicated it’ll endeavour to field a youth league side should the numbers continue to improve but Barrow says the Bulls won’t be pinching players from rival Woodbridge Cup clubs.

“We’re pretty confident if we get accepted at the Woodbridge Cup meeting the players will come out of the woodwork,” she said.

“We’ve got enough players to field a league tag team now, and the numbers are still coming in for the senior grades too.”

She said the Bulls’ possible reforming has been the talk of the tiny Cabonne town.

“My boys have always wanted to play for Molong,” Barrow said, her youngest two sons Jye and Kade part of the Group 10 winning Bathurst Panthers side in 2018.

Both of the youngest Barrow boys have indicated they’ll play for the Bulls in 2019.

“Their dad played and coached here back when Todd and Beau were little, Dave was the coach then, but people go away for different reasons,” Barrow continued.

“The interest is there. Everywhere I go people have asked me about it so we organised a meeting and now we’re looking at a committee.”

A Bulls revival would reinvigorate the old Manildra and Molong derby and give the Woodbridge Cup a 10-team top grade premiership race, making it one of the biggest competitions in Country Rugby League.

“We used to have the local derby and it was fiercely fought,” Barrow said.

“It would be good to have that back, but we want to see both clubs strong. We all do.

“We’ve always had league in this town and it’s sad it hasn’t been here. Molong’s always loved its footy and we’re confident of bringing that back.”

The Molong Bulls AGM will be held at the Molong Central School hall from 6.30pm and Wednesday, October 31. Barrow is encouraging any interested players and coaches to attend the meeting, too.
