In a match in which innings’ were shortened due to a rain-affected day one, Rugby downed the Cougars by six wickets.
The Cougars started the day at the crease, resuming at 2/4. Things didn’t get better when Connor Watts (4) departed but Nathan Hawke helped the CYMS build back into the game.
He made 47 before being removed by Zac Murphy (2-31 from eight).
Murphy was one of many Rugby bowlers to do a job with the ball as the Cougars were restricted to 7/126.
John Connelly (4) fell early in the chase but Rugby controlled things from there.
Ryan O’Connor and Glenn Shephard combined in a 73-run stand which put the men in sky blue in a commanding position.
Shephard was removed by the spin of Yogi Chawla (2-45) for 38 and Murphy (4) and Hayden Lew (10) fell soon after to give the Cougars the slightest sniff. But O’Connor’s unbeaten 50 saw Rugby make it backl-to-back wins.
A tough team effort from Macquarie saw the Blues score their first win of the season on Saturday.
Macquarie resumed at 0-32 against RSL-Colts and a number of starts saw the Blues post 4/188.
David Elder top-scored with 49 but Ian Marchant (40), Luke Patis (37), and Jonathan Blizzard (33) all contributed.
Adam Davis’ hard-hitting had Newtown on track in the chase, the opener helping the Tigers reach 1-65 from after 10 overs.
But captain Jeremy Dickson (3-51) and Chad O’Brien (3-24) kept chipping away as the Tigers’ middle and lower order faltered.
Davis made 86 but it proved in vain as Newtown finished at 8-182, just seven runs off victory.
RSL-Colts and South Dubbo played out a fantastic match at Lady Cutler 3, but it was the men in red who escaped with the points.
South Dubbo started the day at 0-12 and went on to post 6-166 against a disciplined Colts bowling attack.
Sam Bass started what turned out to be a big game with 4-26 while Ryan Davies chimed in with 2-20.
Mark O’Donnell’s 36 was the top score for the Hornets.
Rajat Rai gave Souths a great chance with the ball, ripping through Colts’ top order on the way to finishing with 4/29 from 13 overs.
But the total proved just not enough, as Colts went on to win by two wickets.
The experienced group of Nathan Jones (33), Matt Keenan (24) and Nathan Finlay (22) all played a role but it was youngster Bass who made a vital 23 not out in the victory.
