The mayoral minute for new car parking spaces at Dubbo Hospital is just two pages of the 991 page agenda for the October Dubbo Regional Council meeting.
Cr Shields’ $1.2 million proposal is to re-configure the existing car parking in Myall Street while also developing an additional parking bay along the northern side of Theresa Maliphant Park.

“This would provide very visible and convenient parking for visitors to the hospital with the proposal seeking to retain as many existing trees as possible, as well as involve additional tree planting to maximise the provision of shade for vehicles as well as ensure the proposed car park integrates effectively into the existing park,” he said in the mayoral minute.

Cr Shields said the proposal would involve council providing the land to NSW Health for them to carry out the construction, however at the moment the design was only conceptual.
At the meeting on Monday night the mayor will ask the councillors to support him in his proposal for council to undertake the necessary steps to facilitate the transfer of land to NSW Health for construction.
The mayor is also planning to call for a masterplan to be developed for a walking track around the CBD and Bell River precinct in Wellington.
Cr Shields wants the masterplan to include the construction of a new pedestrian bridge that’s accessible for people with limited mobility.
“With the experience of Dubbo’s riverbank walking tracks in mind, I see it as an opportunity to create a similar recreational walking track around the Bell River precinct within Wellington,” he said.
It would be an opportunity to enhance the beauty of Wellington, the mayor said.
“The reality is that the town of Wellington is one of the prettiest in NSW. A walking track around the picturesque Bell River that is immediately adjacent to the CBD will be an opportunity to show off the Wellington to locals and visitors alike.”
If the plan is passed, council will look at grant funding opportunities to offset the funding costs of the construction of the facilities.
The October council meeting will be held in the Dubbo chambers from 5.30pm. It will also be streamed live on council’s website.
