In exciting news released on Thursday the drive-in will operate for one weekend each month, starting in November, following the successful recent events.
The events, both last weekend and last year, were well supported by the community.
That’s why the organisers have decided to host them once a month.
BUT, if we don’t support it, then they won’t remain. And that’s the important thing to remember.
We’ve heard a few times that ‘there’s nothing to do in Dubbo’. Looking at our What’s On section on the website we would have to disagree with that strongly, but, at the same time, this is one more thing you can add to your weekend list once a month.
This time around, with two sell-out movies, a total of 619 cars and an estimated 2,500 patrons coming from all across the state to enjoy the evening, we would say it’s been pretty popular.
With some great classic movies that have been shown already – everyone enjoyed Grease last time and Jaws this time didn’t they? – the drive in is a unique experience that should be celebrated and enjoyed.
It’s not an all-the-time thing, and the organisers have recognised that in their plans to only put it on once-a-month.
They have listen to the community who have said quite vocally on social media that they don’t want the drive-in to be a regular event, but rather a monthly or bi-monthly treat.
And it will be. It’s never been made very expensive to go along, and with a family full car, it’s quite a cheap form of entertainment for the whole group. But, it is quite expensive to put the movies on, and without residents support, it will close again.
Volunteers have put a lot of work, and a lot of extra hours into getting the drive-in ready and safe for those attending. The first re-opening of the drive in in Youth Week 2017 saw many hours of preparation and work involved, while the second one as part of the DREAM festival over the weekend saw much the same.
To respect the work these people have done, we have to support this initiative.
So, book the date in your diary, get your friends together and keep an eye out for your favourite movie to start playing.
We look forward to seeing you at the drive-in next month.
