Work on the project, north of Dubbo, will start on Monday, October 29.
It will include the clearing of vegetation, drainage improvements and strengthening and overlaying of the existing road.
State Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the work was required to improve safety for all roads users and to reduce future maintenance costs.
“The vegetation clearing will improve sight lines for motorists, while further drainage improvements as well as strengthening and overlaying the existing road to provide an improved surface and widened formation will ensure a smoother, longer lasting road,” he said.
Mr Grant was joined by Minister for Roads Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey in announcing the works.
“Under the NSW Liberals and Nationals government, the Newell Highway has seen significant improvement, she said.
“We have upgraded and strengthened this corridor, the backbone of NSW freight transport.
“These works ensure that we continue to deliver safer and easier travel times for all road users.”
The work will take place on weekdays between 7am and 6pm, and on Saturdays between 7am and 4pm.
