The Drama Club Dubbo will put on three separate shows of The Wiz – which is based on The Wizard of Oz –and was first made famous in a 1970s movie starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
In this new musical version - mysterious, opulent and fanciful - Dorothy's adventures are set to a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul music.
The Club began about 18 months ago by Jo Gibb, who has been putting on productions with children for the past 25 years.
There are over 100 local children involved, with the Club running 13 classes for toddlers to people in their early 20s.

“It’s just taken off through word of mouth,” Ms Gibb said.
“The people that come to our show want to know more.”
Ms Gibb said she’s always loved the Wizard of Oz, and The Wiz featured such great songs that the kids loved singing.
The Club has just begun their full cast rehearsals and this month it will all come together on stage for the three shows over November 16 and 17 at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
Ms Gibb said it has been rewarding seeing the quieter students really come out of their shells since joining the Club.
“It’s been good for their confidence, and it really brings them out in a safe environment,” she said.
Most of the students in the Club are from primary schools, with just about all of Dubbo schools represented, Ms Gibb said.
Last year the Club did a production of The Little Mermaid at the DRTCC, which sold out.
They’ve also taken on much-loved children’s classics, such as James and The Giant Peach, the Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast.
