The Orana Outlaws’ stranglehold over their Western Zone neighbours came to an end on Saturday when suffering a 35-run loss to the Wranglers. The Outlaws, having previously never missed out on making the regional Twenty20 competition’s finals at the Sydney Cricket Ground, then suffered defeat at the hands of the Illawarra Flames. The Wranglers then beat the Flames in Sunday afternoon’s all important match to ensure passage through to the finals day on December 2.
“If we can carry that cricket into our game on the SCG then I think we’ll be very handy. It’s going to be an awesome experience,” Wranglers young gun Ben Mitchell, who hit 81 in the win over Illawarra, said.
The Wranglers will be joined at the SCG by the Coffs Coast, Central Coast and the winner of the Wagga Thunder Conference, which takes place this weekend.
Mitchell and fellow young gun Nic Broes, who starred during the Wranglers’ win over the Outlaws on Saturday, will again be key there.
The performance of the young players delighted Central West captain Jameel Qureshi, but it wasn’t something which surprised him.
“I’ve always been a big fan of what we’ve got here in our region,” he said.
“I’ve had full belief in the blokes in our squad and it’s great to see our younger guys really standing up.”
