Tough old galloper Long Lasting kept fighting all the way down the straight to score a gutsy win in the Aquawest Dandy Cup (1200m) at Narromine on Saturday.

Trained by hometown hope Kylie Kennedy, nine-year-old Long Lasting ($11) held a slender lead turning for home and under vigorous riding from Jake Pracey-Holmes managed to beat Zoutenant (Wendy Peel, $8) by a long-head with a half-head to the third-placed Any Blinkin’ Day (Ashleigh Stanley, $15).
Long Lasting now has 11 wins and 12 placings from 71 career starts.
Cowra jockey Eleanor Webster-Hawes made the most of her only ride at Narromine when winning the Adors Hire Class 2 Handicap (800m) on Noble Hussler.
Given a nice run behind the leader, the Andrew Molloy-trained Noble Hussler ($9.50) won by a half head from Algeroba (James Rogers, $31) in an exciting finish while French Giggle (Ashley Morgan, $41) was third.
Formerly trained in Queensland, Noble Hussler is ridden in trackwork by Eleanor Webster-Hawes and was was having the second start for the Cowra-based Molloy team.
Reared at Tottenham, Allan McRae is now a successful trainer at Yass but still often travels back to central west meetings. On Saturday he won the Bourchiers Macquarie Valley Fuels Maiden Plate (800m) with Haralben.
Clinging to a narrow lead late, Haralben ( Robbie Brewer, $15) was under siege but held on to score by a short head from Trojan Tony Cavallo, $2.40 favourite) with Call Me Trinity (Adrian Robinson, $21) third.
Backing up from a last start win, Some Nights (Kath Bell-Pitomac, $19) came from midfield to overhaul the giant Perpetual Motion (Tony Cavallo, $4.80 favourite) in the Agrigrain Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600m) for Narromine’s Wayne Collison.
Tamworth based apprentice Wendy Peel brought the The Flying Scot ($4.20) with a well timed run to win the Maiden Plate (1300m) for Dubbo’s Garry Lunn while other winners were Clint Lundholm’s Poppy’s Freckle (Adrian Robinson, $21) and the Rod Northam-trained Dubai’s Got Talent (Ashley Morgan, $5.50).
