The Dubbo South Public School student joined her friends on the tarmac ready to greet Prince Harry and Meghan, and Ava had a special moment with the duchess.
“They walked over to the school children and he came over to us and shook my hand and said ‘what’s your name?’ And I said ‘my name is Ava’ and ‘congratulations!’ And he said ‘thank you’,” Ava told the Daily Liberal.
“Then Meghan came up and she said said ‘hi’ and shook my hand and asked for my name and I said ‘I’m Ava’ and [friend] Millie [Sutcliffe] and I both said ‘congratulations’ at the same time!
“I said ‘I’ve watched all of Suits, you were so good in it’ and she said ‘thank you, our new season’s out’ and I said ‘I’ll be sure to download it’ and she said ‘yes you should!’”
The excitement continued as principal Sharon Murray called on Prince Harry to pause for a photo.
It will be a moment Ava – and no doubt her friends Mille Sutcliffe and Amy Quilte – will never forget.
“It was so good … exciting!” she said.
“I hope that they come back one day so that I can see them again.”
