Dog Harlee – and her human owners – travelled from Canberra for a chance to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Picnic at the Park on Wednesday.

“She wants to meet him and kiss her boyfriend,” Tammy Kirchner said.

Harlee’s shirt read ‘it should have been me’ with a mention of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding underneath. She was at the front of the barricade at the picnic in the hope of meeting her prince.

Harlee wasn’t swayed by the long trip to meet the royal couple. Her owners said they decided to come to Dubbo over somewhere like Sydney because they believed she would have the best opportunity to meet Prince Harry.

While Harlee’s shirt may have been one of the quirkiest of the outfits at the Picnic at the Park, she definitely wasn’t the only attendee who had chosen to dress up for the occasion.

David Schwager wore a crown and a specially-made tie for the event, featuring photos of the duke and duchess.
