Emma and her mum Brenda arrived at Victoria Park at 9 am, got a good spot and settled in for more than three hours, eagerly anticipating along with more than 10,000 other people, the arrival in Victoria Park of the royals.
Emma said she was thrilled the royal couple chose to spend time in Dubbo and not even the looming HSC would have stopped her from witnessing Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit.
The HSC written exams begin with a two hour and ten minute English standard test on Thursday, October 18, part two of the English exam follows on Friday before another three weeks of tests, commencing October 22
“I have been studying six hours a day for the last two weeks so I could have today off because I really wanted to see the royals,” she said.
“I am really excited and it was great to see them.”
Emma said she is a fan of the royal couple.
“They do lots of charity work and I love the idea of supporting other people as they do,” she said.
“They are out in the community and they do help, they are not always about themselves, Harry started the Invictus Games, that alone shows his focus on other people.
“They both seem to be more of the people than above them.”
Emma said the royal couple were inspiring to young people.
“They are still young people and I think they are good role models for people my age because they set that example of looking out for other people,” she said.
Brenda Florida said by visiting Dubbo, Harry and Meghan had lifted the spirits of many in the community.
“I really like the approach that Harry has taken with veterans, I work in health, so I know the good things he is doing in that area,” she said.
“He understands that returned veterans do have problems and that we all need to work to help bring them back into society.
“People think that once someone has recovered from an illness they are okay, but they are not. There is a lot more to health than being free of illness or free of an injury and Harry gets that.
“I also admire Meghan’s work with women’s rights and equality.”
