More women in Melbourne are cycling in the city than the national average but it's still not enough, according to a leading advocacy group.

Up to 27 per cent of bike riders in Melbourne are women which is above the national average, according to the Bicycle Network.
"While I'm proud that we are above the national average of 24 per cent, it would be great to see more women getting on their bike and using our city's cycling network," Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said.
The push comes as part of Ride2Work Day on Wednesday which aims to encourage more people to cycle into work and is organised by the Bicycle Network.
The mayor said she would be taking part in the ride and hoped to see more women join in.
