Ms Akerstrom was working for horse owners John and Susan Rydge at Dural in 1981 when Prince Charles flew into the country for a polo tournament.
The newly-engaged royal rode the Rydges’ polo ponies in the Dunhill International Series at Warwick Farm for two weekends, with Ms Akerstrom strapping for him.
“He [Prince Charles] was fantastic, he was just like one of the other boys just doing a job,” she said.
“It was just wonderful working for him, he was very easy to talk to… just a regular guy, like Harry is now.”
Ms Akerstrom changed her own travel plans this week to be in Dubbo for the visit by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“I would love to meet Harry to show him my photos and chat about his dad,” she said.
