CEO Michelle Redden said the centre’s program allows qualified tradesmen to make modifications such as hand railings, bathroom renovations and access ramps for the disabled and elderly so they can be more independent in their homes.
“It is a terrific program that is funded by the federal government and occasional contributions from the homeowner, we aim to make a home safer to live in for an elderly or disabled person,” she said. “An occupation therapist sets out what needs to be done after the home is assessed and then our tradies do a quote and then the work starts.
Tradesman Adam Hawke said the work is “heartwarming”.
“We go onsite and do the job, sometimes the people are a bit lonely, so we have a chat with them while we work, just seeing the smiles on the client's faces is amazing, this is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done,” he said.
