Judged individually, reining requires a horse and rider to complete one of 10 specified patterns, including: small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll backs over the hocks, 360 degree spins and the exciting sliding stops that are the hallmark of the reining horse. Judges score each horse beginning at 70, adding or subtracting between 0.5 to 1.5 on each manoeuvre.
All events were fiercely contested, with riders coming from as far as Western Australia and more than 40 riders in most classes.
Younger sister Ally took out the Green Rider Level 2 class with an impressive score of 70 before being crowned co-champion in the Youth 13 Years and Under class. She also took out the Youth Teams Tournament coming home with three buckles.
Older sister Kasey won the hotly-contested Youth 14-18 Years Class adding another buckle to her total of 20, riding ‘Lyrics Custom Corey’ trained by Rick Sciberras.
The Macquarie Anglican Grammar students ride with their Nan and Pop (Rick and Lyn Sciberras) at Lyrics Performance Horses. They are committed to their sport and contribute most of their success to their family’s support and encouragement.
