The figure, determined by the recent National Youth Mental Health and Well-Being Survey, has trebled in the past decade and reinforced headspace Dubbo’s commitment to raise awareness of youth mental health and provide mental health literacy tools for young people.
The event on Thursday night is part of headspace Day celebrations across the nation and will show young people ways of caring for their mental health.
“Chilling out, painting, listening to music, meeting up with friends and making new ones are all fantastic ways to look after your mental well-being,” said headspace Dubbo’s youth and community engagement coordinator Amy Mines.
Earlier in the day headspace Dubbo staff will be promoting “seven tips for a healthy headspace” at the Church Street rotunda.
They were created from consultation with young people across Australia.
Ms Mines said headspace Dubbo had joined forces with Midnite Cafe to run Live at the Laneway.
“There will be local musicians, poetry, street theatre and magic to enjoy,” she said.
“We’ll be decking the laneway next to the centre out with string lights and couches. It’ll be a really fun and chilled vibe”.
Community members are invited to attend Live at the Laneway featuring a barbecue dinner from 6pm. The rotunda stall will operate between 11.30am and 2pm.
Almost 2300 youth visits were recorded at headspace Dubbo in the past year.
The headspace Dubbo centre is at 23 Church Street.
