Not-for-profit primary healthcare provider, Marathon Health, is promoting “the many ways” people can get support for themselves or others.
They include SANE Australia online forums hosted by Marathon Health and its Strong Minds Western NSW program.
“Sometimes all people need is a friendly ear or an objective viewpoint to help pull them through their darker hours, so we really encourage people to seek help,” Marathon Health executive manager of clinical governance Bryan Hoolahan said.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has reported of deaths by suicide In Australia rising to 3128 in 2017 from 2866 in 2016.
The figures tell Mr Hoolahan that “now more than ever, we need to start conversations in our communities”.
“We encourage people who may notice a friend or family member is struggling to consistently be there,” he said.
Mr Hoolahan said Marathon Health had partnerships and programs in place to support “you when you are experiencing a difficult time”.
The forums allow anonymous and free access to mental health professionals for people geographically isolated and having trouble getting face-to-face support. Visit https://marathonhealth.saneforums.org.
