Central West Junior Rugby Union Coordinator Jason Blake said NSW Rugby holds the tournament from October 12 to 14 to pick state teams and some Dubbo players are in the mix for selection.

“From this tournament, players are selected into NSW Youth teams in girls and boys to compete in the National Championships held each year in late November early December,” he said.

“The age groups that will compete at the NSW Championships are under 13, 15 and 17 boys and girls, we’ve had players come from Coonabarabran, West Wyalong, Trangie, Nyngan and Bathurst as well as some super talented kids from Dubbo.

“Will Cutthill is a tremendous athlete from Dubbo he’s probably the best player in the under 13s -15 a side team and I think he scored more than 30 tries in 15 a side Rugby this season; he’s a speedy outside back, keep an eye on him to do well.

“He will relish the open spaces in sevens and it will be very exciting to watch him. We have a few other boys from under 15 and 17s that are from Dubbo and they should do well at the tournament too.”

Mr Blake said Dubbo was the perfect place for the squad to have its final hit-out before the Championship.

“We picked Dubbo as the training base due to its facilities and how central it was for all the players that we have that do come from towns all over the Central West, training here today was important for team unity,” he said.

“We will play against teams from all over regional NSW but also powerful teams from Sydney, Canterbury, Randwick, the strong city clubs, so it is essential that we relay information to our players as one group.

“It is a big carnival, the first games kick off at 7 am and last kick off at 7 pm, over three days, so it is a massive program.

“It is a super fast game; it is like touch on steroids, so we will be rotating players on and off the bench. It is good to see so much talent from boys and girls in the regions, and they all want to play Rugby, it’s great.”
