Set a total of 159 by CYMS Green, RSL Colts had to bat well if they were going to win the game.
CYMS Green spokesperson Ben Williams said he thought the total would give his club a good chance of winning.
“Saturday was a perfect day for cricket and both teams came ready to play,” he said.
“The game was played in a great spirit, both teams had fun and played hard but fair.
“I think we won because we got a decent score, it’s always nice to bat first and post a good score, 159 of 35 overs is pretty good and most teams would take that.
“It is always good to give the bowlers a chance to defend a score.”
Mr Williams said CYMS’ openers set the game up well.
“Our openers started well, Joe Jackson and Zac Williams got 36, so they got things going at the top of the order,” he said.
“We have been a bit hit and miss in the middle order, but young fella Jordy Madden scored 19, and Brian Carroll got 33 not out, showing that experience can lead the way.
“The only blight on the match was a few dropped catches, we gave their lower order a few chances and that evened itself out because the Colts’ dropped a few too.
“We will have to tighten up in that area next week.”
Mr Williams said it should be a good summer of cricket in the third-grade competition.
“It was a good day for cricket; everyone was pleased to be out having a hit, ” he said.
“It wasn’t too hot and it was really good to see some young kids having a dig and both sides played well.
“Both sides had a chance to win or lose the game, It was close and it could have gone either way.
“No team dominated, it was a pretty even contest and the game was played in a great spirit, both teams had a good time.”
Williams said it was good to be back playing cricket.
“It is good to be back playing for the summer and all clubs look forward to a good summer in all grades,” he said.
“We are happy with a first-up win and were pretty happy going into next weekend.”
