A lot of work has already gone into preparing the park for the Royal visit, and we are sure there is a lot more still to come.
The itinerary for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit to Dubbo was announced by Kensington Palace in the early hours of our Friday morning – and it looks like the couple are going to enjoy a wide variety of scenes and events within our community.
After they fly in on the Wednesday morning they will spend some time at the Royal Flying Doctor Service before heading to a local farm where they can see the impact the drought is having on our farmers.
Then comes the picnic in Victoria Park that the whole community has been invited too, before they head off to a local school that is working to improve the educational outcomes of young Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders.
Looking at that itinerary, residents have two spots they are most likely to catch a glimpse of royalty.
We’ve heard back in 1992 there was a great crowd at the airport when the Queen arrived, and we are sure this time will be the same.
Then it’s all about heading back into town and enjoying a picnic in Victoria Park.
This much we already know.
The picnic will start at 11.30 and run for three hours (until 2.30pm). Their Royal Highnesses will join the community for part of the event, before heading off to the school.
There will be lots of activities including musical performances and food stalls with all the proceeds going to a local charity.
Roads will be closed around the area, though we don’t know yet which ones.
Since the visit was announced there has been speculation as to where the Duke and Duchess would visit, but now we know, and we can make a plan.
Food and location first.
Will your picnic be more of a traditional English high-tea inspired meal? Or are you going to go with something a bit more Australian – cob loaf anyone?
The town is already abuzz with excitement about the visit – October 17, is going to be amazing! We’re already excited.
We can’t wait to see you in the park.
