Walkabout Barber owner Brian Dowd has enjoyed every minute of his time at the Koori Knockout this weekend because talking to people is the main reason he brought his van and crew to Dubbo, and he estimates they’ve spoken with thousands of people over the course of the football carnival.

“We are about bringing city haircuts to the bush, but more deeply our van is a mobile healing space,” he said.
“When men and young boys come in and sit in our chairs they start to talk, the barber seat is like a magical chair where people just open up about all kinds of things, they share their stories, what’s good, what’s bad in their life and with my background in trauma and recovery we can offer some sound advice to help them.
“Hopefully when people leave our chairs, they have a great haircut, but they might also get some good tips on routine and structure and balance that will help them in their daily lives. So we’ve given our Dubbo customers the freshest haircuts in Australia and some good life tips if they’ve needed them.”
