Each week we aim to bring you a profile piece on the finalists.
This week is Joe Nugent from Joe Nugent Carpentry.
MS: Can you tell me about yourself. Have you always lived in Dubbo?
JN: I haven’t always been in Dubbo. I was born in Wagga in 1996 where we lived for six months and then moved to Bourke for a few years, then moved to Sydney when my father decided to study medicine.
I then moved to Albury and Tamworth between 2002 and 2006 before settling in Dubbo in 2007 and have been here since.
MS: What is your trade and how did you got into that career?
JN: I am a carpenter by trade. I no longer wanted to be at school because I thought it was a waste of my time, I left school at the back end of year 11.
My girlfriend’s father at the time got me a job with one of his mates and that’s where I completed my apprenticeship.
MS: How did it feel to be nominated for ‘Dubbo's Favourite Tradie’ in this year's Rhino Awards?
JN: I was surprised to be nominated for the award because I had only been running the business for about a year, and also feel privileged to get the nomination.
MS: What would it mean to you if you won ‘Dubbo's Favourite Tradie’
JN: It would be huge because hopefully my name would get out there and it would do wonders for the reputation of the business.
