The Macquarie Credit Union DREAM Festival team and the operators of Westview Drive-In have been overwhelmed by the “amazing response” to their pop-up drive-in event.
Tickets to three movies - Incredibles 2, Jaws and Back to the Future - went on sale on Tuesday.
All movies had seen excellent sales within hours of release, organisers reported.
Incredibles 2 was almost sold out, and Back to the Future was not far behind, DREAM Festival chairwoman Anne Field said.
In April 2017, more than 30 years after its closure, the drive-in attracted patrons in their thousands for a one-off event.
Calls for an encore followed and the hard work of people in the community is bringing that about this spring.
“It has been a very special opportunity for DREAM to partner with Westview Drive-In to make these events a reality, and although we would have loved to present more than three movies, this was all we were able to do on this occasion,” Mrs Field said, citing limited days in the schedule and daylight saving.
“For those who miss out on tickets, DREAM has been told the crew at Westview Drive-In are currently looking at funding opportunities to open it again sometime in the future; although until funding is found, the gates will unfortunately have to remain closed and the projector turned off.
We really hope people will enjoy the drive-in experience.

“We really hope people will enjoy the drive-in experience.
“It’s one of very few that are functioning in Australia at the moment, and it appears that many people will be travelling to go to the drive-in, and the festival in general.”
Households should keep a look out for the full DREAM Festival program, set to be delivered to mailboxes soon.
The festival committee has also issued a call-out to anyone interested in volunteering, particularly for the Music + Markets and Lantern Parade events on October 27.
