The club is holding a trial night this Friday night starting from 6 pm at Barden Park.
Dubbo Little Athletics club spokesman Matt O’Dea said he would love to see the number of junior athletes at the club grow.
“We encourage kids that are thinking of joining up to come and have a run and throw and jump to see if they like it before they join up for the season,” he said.
“The season proper starts on Friday, October 19 and people can still register up until that point to join us at Barden Park North Dubbo.”
Mr O’Dea said Little Athletics is good for kids of all ages.
“We cater from the tiny tots from four years old right up to under 17s and we have events that suit all abilities of athletes, from shot-put and long jump through to three kilometre runs,” he said.
“We are a family club and it is a very friendly atmosphere, our club coach Mark Penman is a level two accredited coach and he trains our athletes twice a week which is covered in the membership of the club.
“We encourage families to use the state government active kids voucher which takes about $100 of registration fees which makes it very affordable, for example, it will only cost me $25 to join my daughter up with the club this season.
“Now that the football season is over it is a good way for players to their keep their fitness up and its a non-competitive environment where the participants are competing against themselves rather than others.”
Mr O’Dea said most of the track and field disciplines are covered.
“Our club covers most of the track and field events, but not hammer throw and pole vault,” he said.
“We do have a focus on the safety of our athletes, but we feel that the spectrum of events we do offer would give a well rounded athletic experience for the kids.
“As they get older, they can focus on specialist events, but we attempt to give a broad overview of events for the kids in our club.”
Mr O’Dea said little athletics is a way for parents and children to participate in the sport together.
“The club’s parents help out by raking sand pits and measuring long or high jump, they are effectively our Marshall's, so it is a parent-run club,” he said.
“Little athletics is a way for parents and kids to be involved in a sport together.”
