The Dubbo Stampede has donated $7,000 along with a number of in-kind opportunities to the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF), providing further assistance to an organisation that shares a similar outlook and goals.
The IMF, which is a health education initiative to promote running and healthy lifestyles in Indigenous communities by celebrating achievement and resilience, is something the Dubbo Stampede is proud to have been associated with since 2015.
Dubbo Stampede President Rod Campbell was pleased the partnership between the organisations had continued into 2018.
“The IMF do a great job increasing awareness around the importance of exercise and a healthy lifestyle while also complementing existing Indigenous community health initiatives,” Campbell said.
“When I think of the Dubbo Stampede, we are promoting the same type of initiatives such as being active, healthy, inclusiveness and community interaction.
“It is great to again be making a financial donation to the IMF which we are able to do thanks to the high number of participants we get every year.”
There has been a strong contingent of IMF runners in recent editions of the Dubbo Stampede, and this year a local was among the group.
John Hill has been a real success story since becoming part of the IMP. A promising boxer as well, Hill has taken part in numerous marathons and half-marathons throughout the year and he will run the New York marathon with the rest of the squad next month.
“The marathon running helps my boxing and helps get the kilometres in my legs and the boxing helps, it helps discipline and that stuff you need for running,” Hill said earlier in the year.
The Dubbo Stampede was held on Sunday, 26 August with much more than 2,000 people registering to run, walk and wheel with the herd.
While the committee are taking a well-deserved break, an announcement regarding the date for 2019 will be made in the coming weeks.
