A Jack Hartwig-inspired Red Bend edged past the Wellington Cowboys to advance to the bumper day of action at Bathurst’s Carrington Park.
The victory means Red Bend will feature in the 16s game, while the Forbes Magpies will play off Bathurst Panthers in both the under 18s and first grade fixtures.
The 16s play-off, featuring the winner of the Lachlan league taking on the Dubbo and District competition champion, was played at Peak Hill.
It was a hard-fought battle and the lead changed multiple times during the games.
With 20 minutes to go to the Cowboys led 16-12, but Western Rams under 16s captain Hartwig lifted and Red Bend clicked into gear and ran out convincing 36-16 victors.
Hartwig, who also plays with the Magpies under 18s side, signed a deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs earlier this year.
Red Bend will play Bathurst St Pat’s on Sunday.
