Over 30 days, they aim to walk 10,000 steps per day as part of Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s Steptember fundraiser.
According to Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability that affects movement and posture.
There are 17 million people worldwide living with Cerebral Palsy and 34,000 people are living with the disorder in Australia. There is no known cure.
The mother and daughter duo, whose team is called the Vinyl Walkers, have done Steptember before and Sheena said they think “it is a great challenge for a great organisation.”
“Cerebral Palsy Alliance do fantastic job providing services and research for people living with cerebral palsy and we feel it is important to support organisations doing this important work,” Sheena said.
“If we all help a little a lot gets done.”
To help get reach their daily target, Sheena and Gloria go on walks each day as well as some morning walking to and from work.
They hope to raise $500 for the cause and recently held a vinyl buy swap and sell, which was their main fundraiser for the month.
“We also post on social media, links that people can donate money if they wish. And also a collection box at the Old Bank Music Shop,” Sheena said.
Money raised from Steptember will provide equipment, therapy and services to children and adults living with cerebral palsy.
It can also raise funds for research into the prevention and hopefully a cure.
