The Macquarie Credit Union DREAM Festival on Friday revealed drive-in movies would be part of its 2018 program.
Feature films will screen on the nights of October 19, 20 and 21.
“We’ve been hoping to bring this into our festival program for quite a while and really excited to have the Westview Drive-in partner with us to bring three nights of drive-in movies to Dubbo,” festival chairwoman Anne Field said.
Hundreds of cars rolled into the Westview Drive-in across an April weekend last year when it opened for a one-off Youth Week program in 2017 after a three-decade gap.
Community members called for more, and 18 months later the sequel is here.
I went to Grease [last year] ... so many old cars came along and kind of added to the vibe of the 50s.
- Committee chairwoman Anne Field
“The drive-in is a wonderful experience for young and old alike, and if the success of last year’s events are anything to go by, then those lucky enough to get tickets this time around will be in for a real treat,” Mrs Field said.
The DREAM Festival leader was one of those who attended a session last year.
“I went to Grease and that was a really good one,” she said.
“So many old cars came along and kind of added to the vibe of the 50s.
“So that was really special.”
Mrs Field said this year there would be a few changes.
“Because we’ll be in daylight saving time, we’ll only be screening one feature film each night,” she said.
“And due to traffic restrictions, there will only be 250 cars allowed into the venue, so we’d expect tickets to sell out very quickly."
The movies will be revealed next week, and then tickets will go on sale through www.westviewdrivein.com.au
“We’re seeing what the public are thinking so there’s a lot of discussion on a few different Facebook pages at the moment about which movies they’d like to see, and we’ll be really keen to have a look at that,” Mrs Field said.
“But we’ll try to make sure there are movies that will be child-friendly, and perhaps nostalgic, and we’ll just see, there may be some old favourites coming back.”
The latest chapter of the Westview Drive-in soon had plenty of people talking.
Daily Liberal readers were tagging their friends on Facebook, making plans to go.
“How exciting!!! Can’t wait!!,” Ianthe Hutty said in a post.
