The exhibition will be held at the St Johns College human movement centre from 6.30pm.
Creative Arts coordinator Kirk Watts said the 22 year 12 students had been committed to their works.
“They’ve spent a lot of time on weekends and after school ... they’ve been really committed to detail,” Mr Watts said.
“This group has tended to be quite personal with what they’re making. Other years students have been quite linked to things going on in the world.
“This group have done that but they have conveyed more personal stories as well.”
Mr Watts said he thought the students would receive good results for the major art works.
“Over recent years we’ve built up a decent track record of good results, we tend to have three or four students nominated for art express and usually one has gotten in.
“We’ve got to the point of success breeding success, students from following years see what’s happened the year before and keep stepping up to that mark and keep wanting to better that.”
Visual art students Hannah Sandoval, Blake Browning and Grace Gilbert said they were excited to have their work exhibited.
Hannah said she was inspired by her Philippines background to create her pieces titled ‘Unnerve/longing’.
“I go there once or twice a year and I don’t really fit in with the lifestyle because I’ve lived here [Australia] since I was one, and my parents lived there for the majority of their lives so they have different beliefs and values.
She said she hopes to pursue art in the future as it is one of her favourite subjects.
Blake said his pieces titled ‘personification’ were inspired by his hobby for remaking old cars.
“We’re working on remaking an old VW Beetle,” he said.
“It’s the idea that older cars have personality,” he said.
He said finishing the major work process was both sad and exciting for him.
“It’s been fun and been challenging in some spots, but overall very fun.”
Fellow student Grace said she drew on her go-kart hobby to creat her pieces titled “Momentum”.
“I’ve been racing go karts for the past four years and wanted to show everyone what it’s like to be a woman in a male-dominated sport and to show that not only men can excel in the sport but women can too.”
“The piece shows once you start to get a hang of the speed and adrenaline, everything starts to slow down and you begin to feel like you’re floating and you’ve gained control of everything.
She said the year 12 cohort had been very supportive and proud to exhibit their work.
“It’s such a relief, you feel like a mini-artist, it’s a good opportunity from the school as well, gives you a chance to see what you’re capable of and what you can do in a really big important piece.
