Upon hearing Canadian country music star Gord Bamford has a love for Vegemite, beer and rural life, you would think he was a true blue Aussie, but he has more ties to this nation then you think.

Gord was born and raised in Victoria, Australia and moved overseas at a young age. He has an Australian father who is was able to reconnect with a few years ago.
Gord, who has made frequent visits to the country to see his family or to tour, will be coming back this year to accompany the Wolfe Brothers which will see them play in Dubbo.
“You only have one dad...It was like meeting someone all over again,” Gord said of reconnecting with his Australian father.
“It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders.. but he loves coming along to watch my shows.”

Gord said Australian people are amazing and was just recently in the country for a few performances.
He and the Wolfe Brothers have become firm friends and Gord said he was looking forward to playing with them again.
Although Canada and Australia are very different, culturally. Gord said the fans and beer were similar.
“Aussie fans are so passionate and they like their beer,” he laughed.
“And Canada is a lot the same.”

Although a well-known singer in Canada, Gord said coming to Australia not well known was challenging but good.
“It’s exciting and it’s nice to go somewhere and have to start at the bottom and work your way up again,” he said.
Gord is accompanying the Wolfe Brothers on their Country Hearts tour, where they will play at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on October 11.
Coming to play in a smaller venue to a regional audience was humbling to Gord, who grew up on a farm.
“I’m all about country towns,” he said.

“I’ll perform anywhere, whether it’s 2000 people or 200. I just like to play.”
For those that don’t know much about Gord he likened himself to Blake Shelton, Allan Jackson and our very own Lee Kernaghan.
“I’m very similar to Lee, as my stuff is very grassroots and relatable,” he said.
Getting back to his Australian roots was something Gord is proud of and enjoys doing while here.
“I also did my first ‘shoey’ in Australia. I did good, but I’ll do better next time,” he laughed.
“And I love vegemite.”
