The new purpose-built facility will be built in Dubbo to service and maintain trains.
Tayla Kennedy wrote to Rail NSW and had a face to face meeting with Dubbo MP Troy Grant to voice her concerns.
Transport for NSW replied to Ms Kennedy and said management of any potential contamination on the site would occur through controls and containment measures in accordance with Safework NSW’s requirements.
“Asbestos, asbestos-containing materials and other hazardous building materials were identified as potential contaminants for the Dubbo Maintenance Facility site due to its use for current and former rail activities, stockpiling and illegal dumping,” the Transport for NSW reply said.
“However - preliminary site investigations identified a low likelihood for significant or widespread contamination.
“Construction on the facility would only start once all approvals have been finalised and Transport for NSW has made a determination.”
Ms Kennedy said she appreciated that Mr Grant took the time to meet with her.
“I feel he was unsympathetic to our complaints about the noise from the facility,” she said. “However he has offered to help us negotiate with NSW Rail for some compensation, but he also said we shouldn't hold out hopes for it and that it may end in a court case. Opting for measures like double glazing to shield out the noise may be more likely. We will go for this option if it is the only one available to us.”
