Pet Month runs during September. During that time council will be promoting the services it provides to local pet owners, and offering all residents in the region the chance to win prizes compliments of local sponsors in the annual Pets Month Photo Competition and the Pets Month Colouring-in Competition.
Council’s manager environmental control said pet ownership was rewarding, but there were legal responsibilities that needed to be followed.

“We hope that in September pet owners will take the time to ensure their much loved pets are microchipped and registered and their welfare considered through up to date vet checks, vaccinations and desexing,” Ms Archer said.
“Kids are encouraged to get involved and learn how to be responsible pet owners in a fun and engaging way by entering our colouring in competition and our council rangers will be giving talks at local schools,” Ms Archer said.
The rangers will also be looking for people keeping their pets on leads with special prizes on offer.
