Dubbo’s Marty Paice was “so impressed” by the way a sponsorship program had changed the life of a young man from India that he was moved to get involved.

His meeting with Jane’ Alam Sheikh, a tertiary-educated man whose remarkable story began as a child with few opportunities in Kolkata, left a lasting impression.

Mr Paice became an advocate for Compassion, a group that describes its mission as ‘releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name”.

He’s keenly anticipating a reunion when UK-based Jane’ Alam Sheikh comes to Dubbo on Wednesday for Curry With A Twist.

The event will combine “a masterclass on authentic Indian curry, with a dash of community outreach and a sprinkle of storytelling”.

“He’ll be cooking his mum’s traditional recipe live on stage,” Mr Paice said.

“It should be a really good night.”

It will be the special guest’s first visit to Dubbo.

Curry With A Twist will be held at Dubbo Christian School at 7pm and tickets will be available at the door.
