Dubbo Early Learning Centre holds fundraiser for drought

The children at Dubbo Early Learning Centre held a drought fundraiser with a difference this week.

Rather than just dressing like a farmer and bringing in a donation. The students also witnessed a sheep being shorn and built a scarecrow for their garden.

The idea all started from Lila Crawford.

She wanted the centre to do something for the farmers “because they have nothing”.

Lila was very happy to see how heavy the donation jar was. She said she had also liked having the sheep at the centre.

Chelsea Taylor said she had wanted to do something different to highlight the struggles the drought had had on the farmers.

Most of the kids didn’t know what happened on a farm, she said, but the shearing and scarecrow making gave them a small insight.
