Dubbo band, Eraser, receiving national attention with their music

Emerging Dubbo band have exploded onto the creative scene with recent successes both locally and off shore.

Eraser, which consists of Nolan Furnell and Bec Smith, started about 12 months ago.

Nolan admitted it was difficult to say the type of music they perform but said their style was a mix of alternative and electronic.

“It’s not weird, but it’s different,” he said.

As well as playing locally to a sold out show at the Western Plains Cultural Centre’s Black Box Theatre in celebration of the release of their debut EP, epilogue, Eraser have had their music played in America.

The band was approached to score music for the locally-filmed documentary Pride Out West, featuring the song Salt in the Wound, which is from the EP.

The documentary, initially released on ABC television, was selected to be shown at a Film Festival in North Carolina.

Epilogue was recorded locally at Mioan Studios and mastered by internationally-renowned engineer Pete Maher, who has also completed works for U2, the Rolling Stones and Linkin Park.

“We were glad to see it reach international attention,” Nolan said.

As well as scoring some local gigs, Eraser supported another Dubbo band One Proud Monkey on their tour of regional NSW.

“Our progress is speedy due to the guidance we’ve received from other Dubbo musos,” Nolan said.

As Bec is due to give birth soon, Eraser will take a little break then will work on creating their own music video next year.

“Then we’ll hopefully return to playing more gigs locally and around the state,” Nolan said.

The advice Nolan has for up and coming Dubbo musician is to find others who are in the industry.

Nolan is on board the SOMAD Inc, which is designed as a support group for original Dubbo artists.

He encouraged those to get in touch with the group.

“If people want to support local artists then jump on board spotify, and give their songs a listen and share it with social media,” Nolan said.

“It gives great assistance (in promoting artists).
