Internationally acclaimed Artist Julian Gargiulo makes his Dubbo debut, direct from Carnegie Hall, but throw out any preconceived notions you have about classical music when you take your seat at the theatre because the pianist is unlike any other.
The man with the fro-like mane wanted to be a rock star when he was a kid, but grew up to become a classical pianist instead, but, as he says, “his hair kept dreaming”.
Described as “Saturday Night Live with a piano” and “a marvellous non-stop flow of pure Woody Allen-ish wit”, the Italian-American performer will hold you spellbound as he takes you through a stunning program including Debussy and Rimsky-Koraskov, but not forgetting the usual suspects Beethoven and Chopin in-between sharing his life stories and experiences from stages all around the world.
Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre Manager Linda Christof said the concert ticks a few boxes.
“It’s a piano recital, it has some comedy and storytelling throughout the concert. It is also a matinee starting at 2 pm. So you can have lunch somewhere, an enjoyable theatre experience and then drive home before dark.”
